In recognition of National Pro Bono Week in the U.S., Shearman & Sterling is spotlighting some of the most impactful pro bono matters that it has advised on throughout the past year.

One major case from this past year was Colvin v. Syria, which the firm worked on alongside the Center for Justice & Accountability (CJA) to hold the Syrian regime accountable for the assassination of American war correspondent Marie Colvin. In January of this year, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia found the regime liable, awarding a $303.6 million judgment to Marie’s family.

The below video features an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the lawsuit, including interviews with the firm’s legal team, as well as Cat Colvin, Marie Colvin’s sister and a former associate in the firm’s Project Development & Finance practice.
