Eye of the Storm: Crisis Prevention and Management Roundtable
Shearman & Sterling, in partnership with The Legal 500, GC Magazine and FTI Consulting, hosted the “Eye of the Storm: Crisis Prevention and Management Roundtable” in Hong Kong on November 15, 2018. The discussion was led by Partner Brian Burke (New York/Shanghai-Litigation) and FTI Consulting Managing Directors Mark Rushton and Sandeep Jadav. The roundtable session offered in-house lawyers and compliance professionals the opportunity to consider and discuss, in the company of peers, key issues around crisis management in the Asia-Pacific region.
During the session, Brian and attendees discussed:

- Benchmarking on best-practices for crisis management
- The types of potential crises a company can face – white-collar crime, data privacy breaches, the impact of cyber-squatting – and how to avoid them
- How companies can anticipate and mitigate the likelihood of a crisis before one occurs and how companies can build effective risk and crisis management systems
- How to manage fallout from a crisis in one country to avoid spillover internationally
- Regulators’ expectations in relation to risk assessments and handling crises, risks posed by changing regulations and how and when companies should communicate with regulators in relation to a crisis
- The roles of in-house legal and compliance functions in a crisis
