Shearman & Sterling Latin America team lawyers took home five 2023 Deal of the Year awards at this year's LatinFinance Deal of the Year Awards Dinner held January 25 in New York City. The Shearman team was recognized for its work on a broad range of transactions across Latin America and these awards reinforce the continued strength of the firm’s platform in Latin America and its remarkable transactions during the year.

Representing Chile Electricity Lux MPC, a group of the five largest electric power generators in Chile, on the $1.8 billion financing and securitization related to the 2022 MPC Law. The Shearman team was led by Project Development & Finance partner, Augusto Ruiloba.
Representing Citigroup Global Markets Inc., HSBC Securities (USA) Inc., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC and Santander US Capital Markets LLC as initial purchasers and dealer managers in connection with the issuance of the Republic of Peru’s Sol-Denominated 7.300% Bonos Soberanos due 2033 in an aggregate principal amount of S/9,185,000,000, and in liability management transactions consisting of (i) an offer to exchange or to purchase for cash four outstanding series of Soles denominated notes in the form of Bonos Soberanos and global depositary notes (GDNs), and (ii) an offer to purchase for cash five outstanding series of U.S.-Dollar denominated notes. The Shearman team was led by Capital Markets Of Counsel, Antonia Stolper.
Representing Credit Agricole CIB, HSBC, J.P. Morgan and Santander in the Republic of Uruguay's offer to purchase for cash 4.500% Global Bonds due 2023, 4.375% Global Bonds due 2027 and 4.375% Global bonds due 2031 and USD SLB issuance of $1,499,975,998 5.750% Global USD Bonds due 2034. The Shearman team was led by Capital Markets Of Counsel, Antonia Stolper.
In addition, prior to joining Shearman & Sterling in August 2023, Capital Markets partner Alejandro Gordano was lead attorney for the Sustainable Sovereign Issuer of the Year and Sovereign Bond of the Year where he advised the Republic of Chile on the issuance of $3 billion dual U.S dollar and euro-dominated sustainability-linked notes. In January 2024, Alejandro also led the Shearman & Sterling team that represented the Republic of Chile in connection with the SEC-registered offering of $1.7 billion social bonds due 2029.
