Shearman & Sterling’s Hong Kong Office Hosts Screening of Brave Girl Rising

  • Hong Kong

Shearman & Sterling’s Hong Kong office hosted a private screening of Brave Girl Rising, a powerful new short film about courage and transformation in one of the world’s largest refugee camps, on June 6, 2019.

Brave Girl Rising continues the Girl Rising campaign for girls’ education and empowerment globally. Shearman & Sterling has been a supporter of Girl Rising for a number of years and has organized previous events in support of this campaign including screenings in Paris, New York and London.

Lorna Chen, Head of Greater China and member of the Global Diversity & Inclusion Task Force, delivered opening remarks at the event, followed by associate Iris Priddy (Hong Kong-Investment Funds) who shared her experience with pro bono refugee clients in Hong Kong.

After the screening, attendees and their families were invited to join a number of activities including a photo booth featuring Brave Girl Rising slogans, learning about the work done by OneSky (a local NGO) in providing education programs for vulnerable children in Greater China and selecting a book from our “Empowering Book Station” to take home.
