Robbins Quoted in Global Competition Review on DOJ Auto Parts Investigation

San Francisco Litigation partner Patrick Robbins was quoted in a story, “Former Bridgestone exec agrees to prison time in auto parts probe,” in Global Competition Review. The story looked at the just-announced guilty plea by a former executive of Japan’s Bridgestone rubber company for his role in a conspiracy to fix prices and rig bids in the auto parts market. Robbins, who participated in two celebrated federal acquittals recently, told GCR that the three other charged executives may take another look at their pleas of innocence. “The guilty plea of a colleague could lead them to soften their negotiating stance and make them realize their legal position is getting worse, not better.” Robbins also noted that the other executives may have opted to remain in Japan. “It is unlikely the Japanese government would extradite one of its citizens to the U.S.,” he said. “The treaty gives them discretion not to.”
