Shearman & Sterling Expands Global Litigation Capabilities with Addition of Alessandro Salvador in Italy

Shearman & Sterling has expanded its global litigation capabilities with the addition in Italy of leading litigator Alessandro Salvador and his team. Salvador will join the firm’s Milan office as Counsel.

Salvador comes to the firm from Lombardi Molinari Segni, one of the leading Italian litigation firms in Milan, where he has practiced for over 13 years. His litigation experience in Italy is diverse and includes work on banking and financial services matters, securities litigation, M&A litigation, insurance, real estate and other commercial matters. Notably, Salvador also has experience with investigations focused on banking and financial entities in connection with white-collar and sanctions issues involving Italian regulatory authorities. Salvador has  represented Italian and foreign companies and individuals before courts and arbitration panels, as well as in cross-border litigation, on matters dealing with company law, business law, financial and banking law, insurance law, real estate law, insolvency and regulatory enforcement.

“We are excited that Alessandro and his team have decided to join our firm,” said Domenico Fanuele, managing partner of Shearman & Sterling’s Italian offices. “The firm has an outstanding global litigation practice that we intend to expand to Italy through a group of talented and dynamic lawyers. Alessandro’s and his team’s deep and broad experience will offer our financial institution and corporate clients support in a critical jurisdiction such as Italy, working as an integral part of our Litigation group while at the same time completing the offering of our Italian practice.”

Added Adam Hakki, Shearman & Sterling’s global litigation head, “We are delighted to be expanding our practice in Italy, which is an increasingly important region for our clients, and reflects our commitment to providing the highest level of litigation and investigations capability throughout the world. Alessandro’s background and skills are an ideal fit for our team and our clients.”

Salvador is an Italian-qualified lawyer and holds a Ph.D. in Banking and Financial Law from the University of Siena, following his graduation from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan in 2000 and a term spent in 2004 as academic visitor at the Faculty of Law, Oxford University. Salvador will be joined by senior associate Bruno Visentini and by trainee Silvia Adani, both his colleagues at Lombardi Molinari Segni.

“I am thrilled about this opportunity,” Salvador said. “To start and develop the Italian litigation practice at Shearman & Sterling will be a fantastic task. I am convinced that the ability to offer qualified and sophisticated assistance for litigation is a key strategic aspect of Shearman & Sterlingʼs presence in Italy, even more nowadays where commercial, corporate and financial disputes have significantly increased due to the spreading of the financial and economic crisis throughout Europe and other markets.”

“Furthermore, in my opinion,” he added, “the biggest asset of an international law firm based in Italy is to be perceived as a high-quality Italian law firm but, at the same time, to be able to offer all the benefits of a primary international law firm. My team is strongly committed to realizing this goal for the newly born litigation practice here in Italy.”
