FinTech Foundry Team Contributes to Landmark Global Blockchain Initiative by World Economic Forum

A cross-border team of lawyers in our Financial Institutions Advisory & Financial Regulatory practice collaborated with the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), World Economic Forum, and industry leaders to release the Global Standards Mapping Initiative (GSMI). The GSMI is the first comprehensive effort to survey blockchain standards across the globe, mapping data from over 30 technical standard-setting entities, 185 jurisdictions, and nearly 400 industry groups.

Shearman & Sterling lawyers participated as part of the initiative’s Legal & Regulatory Review. As part of this process, a multinational team of attorneys performed quality control and content review on the research that the GBBC’s Research Collaborators put together on over a dozen jurisdictions. The GSMI includes two reports -- covering technical standards and legislation and guidance by sovereign and international bodies -- and an interactive world map of blockchain legislation and guidance.

The Shearman & Sterling team below also included summer intern Armen Grigorian.
