Global law firm Shearman & Sterling today announces the appointment of Patrick Hein as a partner in its Litigation practice, based in San Francisco.

Patrick is an accomplished former federal prosecutor and trial lawyer, who has served in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY) for the last eight years – including most recently as Deputy Chief of the Business and Securities Fraud Section. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Patrick practiced at a global law firm in San Francisco for six years representing technology companies and financial institutions in complex civil and criminal litigation and investigations.

“Patrick is a highly skilled lawyer with an impressive track record and his addition to our top-tier Litigation practice broadens our disputes offering globally, responding to client demand and market trends,” said David Beveridge, Senior Partner at Shearman & Sterling. “Patrick’s addition to our Bay Area team aligns with our firmwide growth strategy, focused on strengthening the firm’s business mix by building our core practice areas in key geographies.”

Commenting on Patrick’s election to partnership, Adam Hakki, Global Managing Partner and Global Head of Disputes, added: “Patrick’s addition reflects our continued commitment to deepening our disputes offering in the U.S. and the Bay Area in particular. His arrival significantly expands our white-collar capabilities, strengthens and broadens our West Coast team and brings invaluable recent government experience to our group, particularly in the areas of anticorruption, cryptocurrency, securities fraud and antitrust.”

Patrick Hein added: “Shearman & Sterling’s global platform and first-class credentials provide a very exciting opportunity. The firm has a leading Litigation and White Collar practice, and a growing Bay Area presence. I look forward to working with our disputes and transactional teams to further grow and strengthen the offering for our clients.”

Since January 2021, Shearman & Sterling has significantly grown its global disputes offering with the lateral hires of partners Thad Behrens, Sam Cooper, Dan Gold, Saul Perloff and Emily Westridge Black in Texas; Ryan Shores in Washington, D.C.; Matthew Skinner in London as well as internal partner promotions in the firm’s Antitrust, International Arbitration and Litigation practices.
