Partner Thomas R. Makin Receives City Bar Justice Center 2023 Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award

Shearman & Sterling partner Thomas R. Makin (Litigation-New York) will be presented with a City Bar Justice Center 2023 Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award at an in-person ceremony taking place at The New York Bar Association headquarters on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. This award honors the commitment of attorneys in each City Bar Justice Center project to provide quality legal work, display the willingness to take on challenging cases, and achieve positive outcomes for their clients. Thomas is one of just ten recipients of this award, out of the more than 1,800 volunteers who worked with the City Bar Justice Center in the past year. Accordingly, this prestigious award is a testament to Thomas’ commitment to pro bono over the past year as well as his advocacy, influence and thought leadership in the promotion of others in the practice of law.

“Shearman & Sterling is proud to be representing the City Bar Justice Center and its mission to fight for fair and equal access to justice. I personally look forward to many years of continued partnership and remain committed to justice, diversity and public service,” said Thomas.

The City Bar Justice Center provides free civil legal services benefiting approximately 24,000 vulnerable New Yorkers each year. Their clients have experienced wide-ranging health, economic, and legal difficulties associated with the pandemic and they will continue to experience the pandemic’s long lasting effects.
