In 1989, Shearman & Sterling was the first New York law firm to open a Toronto office, as a hub for Canadian cross-border transactions. Today, we continue our active Toronto-based cross-border Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions practices, while integrating seamlessly with teams in other firm offices, including in New York, Texas, California, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, to work on transactions all over the world.

We host a summer program each year in our Toronto office to give law students the opportunity to learn as much as possible about our firm, its practice areas, and the nature of the legal practice generally. You’ll spend your summer doing real work, learning important skills, and working alongside our lawyers. Compensation for our summer associates is US$4,134 per week.

We recruit through the OCI process, subject to guidelines of the Law Society of Upper Canada, from Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) and the University of Toronto Law School. Applications from these two law schools are accepted through viDesktop Portal. We also accept applications from law students at Queen’s University, Western University, University of British Columbia and McGill University, as well as law schools in the United States, emailed directly to TorontoRecruitment@Shearman.com
