Institute of International Finance Annual Membership Meeting

Barney Reynolds (London), partner and head of the global Financial Institutions Advisory & Financial Regulatory Group, participated in the 2016 Annual Membership Meeting of the Institute of International Finance, held from October 6 – 8, 2016 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington DC. This annual conference, held in parallel with the IMF and World Bank annual meetings, brought together participants from over 75 countries and provides a forum for the industry’s leaders to examine today’s most pressing financial issues. This three-day event featured keynote speakers and in-depth expert panels discussing a range of cutting-edge topics, including key regulatory challenges, the future of finance, frontier markets, Fintech and Blockchain. For the first time ever, the conference also had a special half-day event dedicated to Brexit.

As part of the Brexit event, Reynolds had been invited to speak on a panel entitled “Brexit: EU/UK: What’s Next for the Relationship?” This panel focused on the economic relationship that the UK and EU would now have to negotiate in light of Brexit, including a discussion on what the trade-offs could be for different options, and how the choices would impact countries outside the UK and Europe. Other panelists included Anthony Browne (head of the British Bankers Association)
, Steven Maijoor (Chair, European Securities & Markets Authority), David Wright (Chair, Eurofi) and David Schraa (Regulatory Counsel, IIF), as moderator.
