  • Hong Kong

Partner and Head of Greater China Lorna Chen (Hong Kong-Investment Funds) moderated two panel sessions at the 31st Annual AVCJ Private Equity & Venture Forum in Hong Kong on November 13-15, 2018.

The first panel discussion, “Best Practices: Fund Structuring and Management,” was held at the Private Equity Leaders’ Summit on Tuesday, November 13.  Lorna, along with panelists from leading venture capital and private equity firms, assessed the options for GPs when choosing fund domiciles and setting up fund structures.  The panel discussed the following:

  • For what reasons would a manager stop using the Cayman Islands as a fund domicile?
  • How are parallel and feeder structures used to meet the needs of different LPs?
  • What are the latest developments regarding BEPS and AIFMD?
  • What will the industry look like in five years based on the current policy trajectory?

In the second session, “Exits: An Evolving Landscape,” which was held at the Investment Summit on Thursday, November 15,  Lorna and the other panelists considered the following:

  • Which exit routes have proved most fruitful in 2018?
  • Will Asia inevitably see more secondary buyouts?
  • What can investors do in the early stages of ownership to maximize exit options?
  • How to fund managers address the currency risk issue with LPs?

Shearman & Sterling also hosted a gala cocktail reception at the Investment Summit on Wednesday, November 14.

Now in its 31st year, the annual conference brought together over 1,100 senior and influential Asia-focused private equity and venture capital professionals for three days of insightful presentations, thought-provoking discussions and networking.
