Adam Hakki (New York-Litigation), Global Managing Partner and Head of the Firm’s Litigation Practice and Disputes Unit moderated a panel titled, “Securities Class Action and Shareholder Litigation: Key Developments and Trends – Views from the Plaintiff and Defense Sides,” at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law 49th Annual Securities Regulation Institute on January 26, 2022. This program was designed for securities practitioners, outside and in-house counsel, compliance officers, regulators, investment bankers and securities dealers. The panel discussed the following topics:

  • Securities Fraud Class Action Update: class certification after Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. v. Arkansas Teacher Retirement System
  • ‘33 Act Litigation Update: state court litigation, federal forum provisions, and other trends
  • Merger and shareholder derivative litigation: developments under Section 14(a), as well as Delaware law, ESG-driven cases, and other trends
  • SPAC Litigation: key developments in an important emerging area
  • Practical perspectives on valuing, handling, and resolving securities litigation from the plaintiff and defense perspectives

 

During this three-day event, attendees learned from regulators who write the new regulations, judges who interpret the law to resolve complex disputes, and prominent practitioners who guide their clients through the maze of new legislation, regulations, and jurisprudence.
