Shearman & Sterling Advises Namura Shipbuilding in Acquisition of Sasebo Heavy Industries

Shearman & Sterling advised Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in its completed acquisition of Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. in a transaction valued at $234 million.

Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. was established in 1946, with its main center of operations located in the former Sasebo Naval Base. Since that date, the company has expanded its workshops and shipyards to become a well-coordinated heavy industry company with four main divisions comprised of Shipbuilding, Ship-repairing, Machinery and Steel Structures.

Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer of cargo vessels, tankers, and steel structures such as bridges and floodgates. The Company also leases, repairs, and provides maintenance services. As a group, Namura Shipbuilding operates a variety of businesses including software development, information systems sales, precision coil manufacturing, and catering and security services.
