Shearman & Sterling was recognized for “M&A Deal of the Year: South & Southeast Asia” at the Asia Legal Awards 2015. Hosted by The Asian Lawyer, the awards celebrate the region’s top law firms for their work on complex, high-stakes legal matters. Award winners were announced at a gala dinner on March 3 in Hong Kong.

The firm received the award for representing Sun Pharmaceuticals Inc. in its US$4 billion purchase of Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. As a result of this landmark deal, Sun Pharmaceuticals became the fifth-largest specialty generics company in the world and the largest pharmaceutical company in India.

The firm was also shortlisted for “M&A Deal of the Year: South & Southeast Asia” for COFCO's acquisition of Nidera and Noble Agri, “M&A Deal of the Year: Private Equity” for Giant Interactive Group’s take-private transaction, “Securities Deal of the Year: Debt” for Greenko's $550 million high-yield notes offering and “Securities Deal of the Year: Equity” for Frasers Hospitality Trust’s IPO.
