Stolper Quoted in Financial Times’ Special Section on Latin American Capital Markets

Shearman & Sterling partner Antonia Stolper, head of the firm’s Latin America practice, was quoted in a lead story, titled “Opportunity beckons amid Latin American capital markets turmoil,” in the Financial Times’ special section on Latin American capital markets. The story looked at the decline in 2015 of Latin American bond issuance and the general slowdown of the region’s capital markets activity.

“These things too will pass,” Stolper told the FT. “Sovereigns will continue to issue, global interest rates remain low, and there should be more borrowing to pump-prime and fund infrastructure... What you have to do is differentiate the markets.” Stolper also noted that infrastructure financing needs continue to be a priority in Latin America. She said, “It can feel that nothing is happening, but that’s not true if you look at the ground. There is a new power plant here, a new road there, and quite a few cross-border energy pipelines between the US and Mexico.”
