Richard “Jake” Gagnon is counsel in the Tax practice.

He represents U.S. and international clients in audits and investigations before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice and in federal trial and appellate courts. He has served as one of the lead attorneys in a variety of high-profile cases, including cases involving complex U.S. domestic and international tax issues, and cross-border tax investigations. He also has extensive experience negotiating settlements in audits, administrative appeals, investigations and litigation.

In addition to his tax controversy practice, Jake advises on various tax aspects of financings, business restructurings, and investments. He represents and advises businesses in variety of sectors, including finance, investment management, real estate, media, energy and technology as well as high-net worth individuals.

Before entering private practice, Jake served as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division, and as a law clerk to Chief Judge John T. Nixon of the U.S. District Court in Nashville, Tennessee.
