Japan M&A Forum 2018

  • Tokyo

Partner Kenneth Lebrun, head of the Asia Mergers & Acquisitions practice, spoke at Mergermarket’s industry-leading Japan M&A Forum on March 8 in Tokyo, Japan.

Ken led a panel discussion on “A Global Force: Japanese Cross-Border M&A Trends” that discussed recent trends and the changing mentality that is sweeping boardrooms of Japan’s most successful cross-border corporations. The discussion, which included speakers from Ajinomoto Co., Inc., CVC Capital Partners and Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co., Ltd, addressed the following key takeaways:

  • What are the top deal drivers and target geographies for Japanese M&A?
  • How are corporate governance reforms contributing to the current cross-border buying trend?
  • What is the role of private equity in Japanese outbound M&A?
  • Have the recent post-M&A losses in high-profile transactions affected Japanese companies’ appetite for deals?

In addition, Ken delivered a presentation titled “Alternative Structures for Acquisitions of U.S. Public Companies” that explored the unique issues and pitfalls associated with Japanese acquisitions of U.S. public companies.
