As part of Shearman & Sterling’s ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, which made it possible for women to qualify as barristers or solicitors in the U.K. for the first time. To commemorate this event, we hosted a series of events throughout 2019, the first of which was a private screening of RBG, the critically acclaimed documentary celebrating the life and career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. At the age of 85, Justice Ginsburg has developed a remarkable legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon.
