2nd Annual Who’s Who Legal Future Leaders: Arbitration Conference in Hong Kong
Partner Daryl Chew (Singapore-International Arbitration) was invited to participate in the GAR Live Debate, held during the 2nd Annual Who’s Who Legal Future Leaders: Arbitration Conference in Hong Kong, on October 24, 2019.
Daryl opposed the motion titled “This house believes that, so far, Asia has only imitated not innovated,” arguing, among other things, that:
- Innovation must be viewed through the prism of our human experience and innate capacity to create and evolve ideas over time.
- Every member of the international arbitration community, with their diverse jurisdictional and cultural perspectives, has a role to play in developing the “conversation” on ideas – this is part of the process of innovation.
- Every aspect of the ecosystem we practice in reflects the dynamism and innovation in Asia and the unique cultural perspectives that we bring to the conversation.
Following a vote by the audience and decisions by the judging panel, the motion was decisively rejected.
