  • Yunnan

Senior associate Edward Taylor (Hong Kong-International Arbitration) addressed the 2019 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Expo on the topic of “Resolving Infrastructure Disputes along the Belt & Road” at the Kunming International Convention and Exhibition Center in Yunnan, China on November, 22 2019.

Edward identified key risks faced by infrastructure projects along the Belt & Road and how those risks can be mitigated through contractual and investment treaty protections. Topics covered by Edward included the suitability of arbitration, dispute review boards and mediation for infrastructure disputes, the risks and rewards of multi-tier dispute resolution mechanisms and the benefits of investment treaty planning.

The Expo brought together more than 300 participants from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to consider the role of arbitration, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in promoting international trade and investment, including with respect to the Belt & Road Initiative and Yunnan province’s recently announced pilot Free Trade Zone.
