  • Podcast

Shearman & Sterling hosted a series of partner-led calls to answer your COVID-19 questions, including industry trends and the legal and business implications to the pandemic. The calls took place Tuesday through Thursday, March 31–April 2 and April 7–April 9.

On March 31, partners Jay M. Singer (Washington, D.C.-Tax) and Gillian Emmett Moldowan (New York-Compensation, Governance & ERISA) discussed corporate tax and employee and executive compensation topics arising under the newly enacted CARES Act and related issues, including:

  • Maximizing tax refunds for net operating loss carrybacks and interest expense deductions permitted under the CARES Act;
  • Claiming newly authorized tax credits for retaining employees and prior corporate alternative minimum tax payments; and
  • Navigating compensation and severance restrictions on stimulus participants.

Michael Shulman (New York-Tax) moderated this call.
