Shearman & Sterling Named ‘Project Finance Team of the Year’ at IFLR Asia Awards

Shearman & Sterling was named “Project Finance Team of the Year” at the recent IFLR Asia Awards in Hong Kong, in recognition of the firm’s involvement in the most innovative deals across the Asian region. This is the second year in a row the firm has been recognized with this prestigious award.

The ground-breaking Banten power project, in which the award-winning team represented Maybank, Malaysia-Exim, CIMB, Citibank and RHB, was awarded “Project Finance Deal of the Year.” In addition, Alfred Ng, a senior associate in the Singapore-based Project Development & Finance team, was recognized as a “Rising Star” in Project Finance.

Bill McCormack, head of the firm’s Global Project Development & Finance team, said, “We are delighted to be recognized in this way by IFLR. The Asia team has been very successful in advising on the most challenging and complex deals in the region. Banten is a great example of a ground-breaking structure. And Alfred is one our most talented associates—so we are delighted for him. Asia is just one part of a highly-integrated global projects group, and we are extremely focused on providing our clients with exceptional service across the platform.”

The Focus Media take-private transaction was also awarded “Private Equity Deals of the Year.” Shearman & Sterling acted for J.P. Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Limited as financial advisor to the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of Focus Media Holding Ltd. in the company’s going-private transaction.

In addition, the firm was shortlisted in the categories of “High-yield Team of the Year,” “Most Innovative US firm” and “International Law Firm of the Year.” In addition to the “Deals of the year” mentioned above, another two deals on which the firm advised were nominated for "Deals of the Year": Vingroup offering in the high-yield category and the Studio City financing in the Project Finance category.
