Thompson Quoted in The Wall Street Journal on Foreign Banks Pushing for Market Share
Co-head of Global Finance Joshua Thompson
was quoted in The Wall Street Journal
in an article, “Foreign Banks Take Advantage of U.S. Rivals' Reluctance to Lend.” The article discusses the recent clampdown by US regulators on risky lending practices by US banks, which has resulted in opportunities for foreign banks and nonbank lenders to pursue larger leveraged-buyouts and other deals. According to Thompson, "Some underwriters are taking advantage of excessive caution shown by others to push for market share." The article pointed out that the uncertainty by US banks as to what is allowed under the new regime has also curtailed certain banks from lending into deals which may be considered outside the guidelines.
