Partner Russell Sacks (New York-Financial Institutions Advisory & Financial Regulatory) recently received the prestigious Cornerstone Award from Lawyers Alliance for New York.
Winners of the Cornerstone Award, the highest business law pro bono honor in New York, were selected from more than 1,500 business and transactional lawyers who volunteered through Lawyers Alliance during the past year. Since first partnering with Lawyers Alliance in 2010, Sacks, together with teams from across Shearman & Sterling, has worked on corporate and compliance pro bono matters, particularly including working with federal credit unions on a range of regulatory and compliance matters.
“Working with Lawyers Alliance is a great pleasure for the entire Shearman & Sterling team, especially in that it presents us with opportunities to support the community on projects and issues to which we bring specialized experience,” says Sacks. “Together with the leadership and expertise of the Lawyers Alliance staff, we have been able to produce good results on important projects.”
Based in New York City, Lawyers Alliance for New York is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in low-income communities throughout the city. Each year the organization’s legal staff, joined by more than 1,500 volunteer attorneys from more than 125 law firms and corporate legal departments, serves thousands of nonprofits working in all five boroughs. Shearman & Sterling received an institutional Cornerstone Award from Lawyers Alliance in 2005. Other individual Cornerstone Award honorees at the firm include Robert Fagiola (New York–Real Estate) and Doreen Lilienfeld (New York–Compensation, Governance & ERISA).
