Lauded for winning the “arbitration of the century,” Shearman & Sterling partner Emmanuel Gaillard, head of the firm’s International Arbitration practice and of the Paris office, was once again named to Vanity Fair France’s list of the “50 most influential French people in the world.” Gaillard, this year again the only lawyer on the list, came in at No. 16 (up from No. 29 in last year’s ranking). The most influential person on the list this year is International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde. The list includes the likes of economists Thomas Piketty and Jean Tirole, Nobel prize writer Patrick Modiano, basketball star Tony Parker, actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and President François Hollande.
