Lilienfeld, Parisi Interviewed on Diversity Initiatives

New York partners Doreen Lilienfeld (Compensation, Governance & ERISA) and Donna Parisi (Asset Management) were interviewed by the New York Law Journal in an article published on March 30 focusing on Diversity Initiative honorees. Shearman & Sterling was recognized by the New York Law Journal's Diversity Initiative Project 2015 for the firm’s commitment to creating an atmosphere of empowerment for women lawyers.

The article notes that Lilienfeld and Parisi are staunch advocates for advancing the careers of women in the firm through @ShearmanWomen, the firm’s Twitter feed. They have found that Twitter is a particularly useful vehicle in attracting college and law students interested in pursuing legal careers. "They are much more typically on Twitter than on LinkedIn or other professional social media,” Lilienfeld said, “and it is a real opportunity to reach the next generation that we are trying to attract."

Shearman & Sterling has also implemented other strategies to address women's advancement. For example, the firm is a partner in Ellevate Network (formerly 85 Broads), a global business organization for women, and encourages women to host Ellevate sessions and discuss topics of interest. “It's a really powerful tool for women to develop their thought leadership and profile in their respective industries,” Parisi said. Success for the firm’s various women’s initiatives will be measured by more women in senior and leadership positions, including equity partners, she added.
