Bill McCormack Receives ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ at The Chambers Asia-Pacific Awards 2015

Shearman & Sterling’s Bill McCormack, global head of the firm’s Project Development & Finance Group and Singapore managing partner, was honored at The Chambers Asia-Pacific Awards 2015 for his “Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession.” This prestigious individual award is given to the lawyer who has had the most significant impact on their market, both in a broad sense and in relation to their particular practice area.

At the awards dinner at the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong on May 4, Chambers recognized McCormack as “a star in the field of project finance and development” who is frequently singled out as a leader in this area. He was praised for his “very practical and clear thinking" and his "unrivalled track record in leading on large-scale project financings” across the region.

Having worked in Asia for 20 years, McCormack has extensive experience representing lenders, sponsors and governments in the region. He recently led the team advising the banks on the award-winning Asahan IPP in Indonesia and is currently working on the Central Java IPP in Indonesia, the Upper Trishuli hydroelectric power Project in Nepal, the CHP5 project in Mongolia, the Gul Ahmed and Metro Wind Projects in Pakistan and the RAPID petrochemicals project in Malaysia.

“I am extremely flattered to be singled out by Chambers in this way," McCormack said. "One of the attractions of working in project development and finance is the opportunity to have a tangible and positive impact in developing countries and frontier jurisdictions like Pakistan, Myanmar, Nepal and Indonesia, especially in the area of renewable energy.”
