Mundheim Receives ALI’s Distinguished Service Award

New York of counsel Robert Mundheim recently received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Law Institute (ALI).

ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize and otherwise improve the law. Composed of 4000 lawyers, judges and law professors, ALI drafts, discusses, revises and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.

Elected to the organization in 1969, Mundheim served on ALI’s Council for 27 years and became emeritus in 2012. He also served a total of eight years on the ALI Executive Committee; 15 years on the Investment Committee, including three years as chair; five years on the Nominating Committee; and 14 years on the Special Committee on Conflicts of Interest. As chair of the Special Committee on Governance, Mundheim oversaw a critically important time of transition as ALI revamped its bylaws and Council rules to mandate term limits.

On ALI’s projects, Mundheim is an adviser on the Restatement of the Law of Charitable Nonprofit Organizations and joined the Members Consultative Group to work on Principles of the Law of Government Ethics. He was also an adviser and consultant on Principles of Corporate Governance (1994) and an adviser on the Restatement of the Law Third, The Law Governing Lawyers (2000).
