The ICC World Council has appointed Paris partner Yas Banifatemi as vice-President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration for a three year term effective July 1, 2015.
The ICC International Court of Arbitration is the leading international arbitral institution for the resolution of commercial disputes. It registered 791 Requests for Arbitration in the year 2014, involving over 2000 parties from 140 countries and independent territories.
A partner in Shearman & Sterling’s International Arbitration Group and the leader of the firm’s Public International Law Practice, Banifatemi has represented States, State-owned entities and companies in many high stake commercial and investment treaty arbitrations. She also acts as an arbitrator in both commercial and investor-State disputes.
“I am honored to be appointed to this prestigious role and look forward to working with such a distinguished body of eminent arbitration specialists from around the globe,” comments Banifatemi.
In May 2015, Banifatemi was appointed a member of the Court of the LCIA, effective 1 June 2015.
Emmanuel Gaillard, head of the firm’s International Arbitration Group, adds, “These two appointments demonstrate Yas' exceptional global reputation. In addition to being an outstanding lawyer, she has the highest professional and ethical standards. I cannot think of a better profile for the role of Vice President of the leading international arbitral institution.”
