As a member of Out in Law, the legal division of Out Leadership, Shearman & Sterling associates and partners participated in OutNEXT: LGBT Emerging Leaders Summit 2015, held at Barclays’ New York headquarters on July 22 and July 23. The two-day Summit convened the next generation of LGBT leaders from member firms across industries where they engaged in all-day development programs, interactive panel discussions and business case studies with senior leaders.
The event included a BBQ Cookout at The LGBT Community Center, which the firm co-hosted. Alexandro Padrés, a partner and advisor to the firm’s Sterling Pride inclusion network, delivered opening remarks, noting, “All of us here share the common goal of achieving workplace equality, and Out Leadership is helping make this a reality for all of us.” Padres then introduced South African slam poet and TED Fellow, Lerato (Lee) Mokobe, who performed for the audience.
In addition, one of the closing sessions included a fireside chat with Jim Obergefell, the plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges, the case that led to the Supreme Court’s recent landmark ruling on marriage equality.
