Shearman & Sterling Elects New Partners

Global law firm Shearman & Sterling has elected 8 counsel and associates to the partnership across its worldwide platform. The new partners practice in four offices — London, New York, Paris and Singapore — and in the capital markets, finance, intellectual property transactions, international arbitration, litigation, mergers and acquisitions and tax practice areas.

The following lawyers were elected partner:

Richard Alsop practices in the Capital Markets Group in New York. He has extensive experience in capital markets transactions, underwriting and corporate governance and in working with financial institutions. He advises corporations and investment banks on a broad variety of capital markets work, including IPOs, convertible bonds and investment grade and high-yield bond transactions and is part of the firm’s corporate governance advisory team. Richard received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Columbia College and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. 

Simon Letherman practices in the Tax Group in London. He advises on a wide range of UK and international corporate tax matters, including major mergers and acquisitions, domestic and international banking, structured finance, capital markets, corporate restructurings, private equity, investment funds, financial products, derivatives and real estate transactions. Simon earned a First Class B.A. from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. from the University of Manchester.

Daniel Litowitz practices in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York. He has considerable US and global experience in a broad range of strategic transactions, including cash and stock mergers, tender and exchange offers, private equity transactions, stock and asset acquisition and disposition transactions, and joint ventures for US and multinational clients. Daniel received his bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Ilir Mujalovic practices in the Capital Markets Group in New York. He has extensive experience in capital markets transactions and advises investment banks and corporations on a wide variety of matters, including IPOs, follow-on offerings, convertible bonds, high yield and other debt offerings. He also served as a Director and Assistant General Counsel at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he advised on a broad range of equity and high yield capital markets transactions. Ilir received a bachelor’s degree from The City University of New York-College of Staten Island, with highest honors, and a J.D. from New York Law School, summa cum laude.

Matthew Powell practices in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group in London. He has an extensive legal background in all forms of corporate advisory work, particularly focusing on the energy and natural resources sectors and cross-border work. His experience includes joint ventures, farm-in arrangements, public and private acquisitions and equity capital raisings. Matthew is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and is noted in the 2013 and 2015 editions of Legal 500 for his work in oil and gas transactions. He holds a bachelor’s degree, with honors, from the University of Oxford and graduated, with distinction, from Nottingham Law School.
