Shearman & Sterling advised the SEB on the financing of the acquisition of exocad GmbH, a provider of CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) Software for the dental industry, by The Carlyle Group.

The transaction was financed by Carlyle Europe Technology Partners III, a fund specialized in the area of European Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) worth EUR 657 million. With the acquisition of exocad, The Carlyle Group attained another company in the field of dental medicine driving the growth strategy in this sector.

exocad, headquartered in Darmstadt, maintains five locations worldwide. The company was spun out of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD in 2010 and has since then established itself as an independent company for Dental-CAD/CAM software solutions.
