The American Lawyer presented Shearman & Sterling with a Grand Prize for Global Finance Deal of the Year at its Global Legal Awards ceremony on September 25. The prize was secured for the firm’s work on Argentina's record-breaking $16.5 billion sovereign bond issue, which the publication described as “transcend[ing] business and finance" and “a matter of historic national significance."

“We are honored to have worked on this historic undertaking. It is not every day that you get the chance to settle litigation with a bond deal so everyone involved really worked together to make this a success,” commented partner Antonia Stolper. “This offering really marked the start of an exciting new chapter for Argentina.”

In September, the firm was acknowledged with three Global Finance Deal of the Year awards: Debt Capital Markets Deal of the Year; Projects Deal of the Year for its work on the Bhimasena Power Indonesia project; and Insolvency and Restructuring (Africa) Deal of the Year for its work on the Edcon restructuring.
