London Office Volunteers at the Walworth Academy

Volunteers from Shearman & Sterling's London office have been working with the Walworth Academy, a mixed, non-selective school for pupils from 11 to 18, over the last academic year.

Among other things, the Shearman & Sterling volunteers have run insight days and presentations for year 12 students. The insight days are designed to give the students an understanding of the many different professions available to them including law, marketing, accountancy and personal/executive assistants. They include an introductory session in the relevant field and an interactive session to enable students to receive practical insight into a particular career so that they can make informed decisions about their future. On June 13, students from Walworth Academy attended the law Insight afternoon. The feedback following the session was very positive, with students expressing that they felt more motivated to study law and were more informed about various law career paths.

We also delivered a presentation earlier this year at the school on “Personal Branding and Digital Footprint.” The presentation focused on the importance of having a positive online presence and how social media posts can impact their job prospects. It also covered how the students can manage their social media privacy.
We thank the pupils for their insight and enthusiasm and look forward to continuing to work with the Walworth Academy in the new academic year.
