Shearman & Sterling advised Continental AG (Continental) on the acquisition of Kathrein Automotive GmbH (Kathrein Automotive), one of the leading specialists in and manufacturers of vehicle antennas. The transaction is subject to the approval of the competition authorities and expected to close in the first quarter of 2019.

Kathrein Automotive is a subsidiary of Kathrein SE headquartered in Rosenheim. The company has over 1,000 employees and operates eight locations in Brazil, China, Germany, Mexico, Portugal and the U.S.

Continental is a listed German technology company headquartered in Hannover. Following a longstanding and successful cooperation with Kathrein Automotive, Continental decided to buy the company in order to develop intelligent antenna solutions themselves. High-performance intelligent antennas are the key technology for holistic vehicle connectivity.
