Shearman & Sterling Earns Perfect Score on 2019 Corporate Equality Index for 10th Consecutive Year

Shearman & Sterling has earned a perfect score of 100 percent for the 10th consecutive year on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a U.S. national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.

“We are pleased to be recognized with a perfect score for our policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality for the 10th year,” said Senior Partner David Beveridge at Shearman & Sterling. “Building a collaborative and inclusive environment at our firm is essential to deliver the diverse teams, multifaceted perspectives and quality of work that our clients expect and the type of environment that our employees need to succeed.”

The 2019 CEI rated 1,028 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Shearman & Sterling’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and its designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.”

“We believe that high quality client service comes from constantly expanding our view of the world, bridged by an inclusive workplace culture where all of our employees can feel like they belong and thrive,” said Sandra Bang, Chief Diversity and Talent Strategy Officer at Shearman & Sterling. “While we are truly honored to have achieved another stellar Corporate Equality Index rating this year, we know there is still much work to be done.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
