Shearman & Sterling is delighted to announce that Richard Sitton will join the firm today as counsel in its Houston, Texas office.
Richard brings extensive experience in energy financing, complementing the existing Houston team’s work on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and project-related work across the oil and gas spectrum. His practice focuses on debt transactions in the oil and gas industry, representing corporate borrowers, commercial banks, mezzanine lenders and institutional investors.
Hugh Tucker, Head of Shearman & Sterling’s Texas practice, commented: “Richard brings not only a stellar track record as a sophisticated finance lawyer, but also senior-level experience working at a highly regarded oil field service company, where he led M&A efforts. We are thrilled to have him join us.”
Shearman & Sterling opened an office in Houston with six partners in May 2018 – its second Texas office following its Austin office opening in March 2018. The Houston-based team has significantly expanded the firm’s existing global energy capabilities with a focus on oil and gas transactions and projects, in complement to the firm’s existing global energy group, particularly in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America.
Partners Bill Nelson and Kristina Trauger joined the Houston office in December, establishing the Capital Markets practice there. They bring extensive experience advising on both debt and equity capital markets transactions for issuers and underwriters in the oil and gas industry, among others.
Richard earned his JD degree from the South Texas College of Law, magna cum laude; an MBA from Rice University; and a BA from Texas A&M University, cum laude. He joins from Simpson Thacher.
