Shearman & Sterling Among Top Firms in Latin Lawyer’s Debt Capital Markets League Table

Shearman & Sterling is among the international law firms that have advised on the most debt capital markets deals in Latin America, according to Latin Lawyer’s latest league table, which ranks the firm at No. 2. During the first half of 2019, the firm advised on 12 transactions with a total deal volume worth $15.4 billion. This accounted for 17 percent of total capital raised from debt transactions in the region from January to June 2019.

The firm has also been involved in some of the most innovative debt capital markets deals, including Latin America’s first sovereign green bond and the region’s first Euro-denominated sovereign green bond, both issued by the Republic of Chile. It was also an advisor on Peru’s $2.5 billion bonos soberanos and global bond issuances both of which priced at record low rates, as well as transactions for Petrobras, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), AES Gener, Alicorp and YPF Luz.

This follows the firm’s work on three innovative equity transactions in Latin America through 2019: Intercorp Financial Services’ NYSE-listed IPO, Cencosud Shopping’s $1.05 billion IPO in Chile and Vista Oil & Gas’s NYSE-listed IPO.

Published on August 21, 2019, Latin Lawyer’s league table results are based on transactions conducted under debt capital markets rules set by a relevant securities regulator, including securities, notes, debentures, bonds and debt tender offers. The tables do not include equity transactions, such as IPOs, share placements, Fibras, CKD or tender offers.
