Shearman & Sterling launches Future Young Lawyers Program in Hong Kong

Shearman & Sterling’s Hong Kong office is pleased to announce the successful launch of its Future Young Lawyers Program, which is aimed at giving law school and other university students insights into working at a global law firm and helping them develop career ready skills.

The program is being run for three sessions, featuring content that has been designed by the Hong Kong office Partners and Associates Committee including a transaction case study, practice group introductions as well as resume and interview workshops.

Each session is being delivered online over two days to 20 students, with a follow-up visit to the Hong Kong office being planned. The program has received a significant number of applications and following a selection process, the total student cohort represents 16 universities from Hong Kong, the U.S., the U.K. and Australia.

Session 1 of the Future Young Lawyers Program was held on July 30 and July 31 and received considerable positive feedback from participants on the practical skills learnt and valuable insights gained. The remaining sessions will be held over consecutive weeks in August.

Lorna Chen, Asia Regional Managing Partner and Head of Greater China said: “The goal of the program is to help families with college and law school students who are studying in Hong Kong or have returned to Hong Kong from their studies abroad due to the pandemic situation. Career planning in a COVID-19 environment is undoubtedly challenging and we hope to be able to support these students in preparing for their future.  I am excited that we continue to work on community service initiatives during the pandemic.”
