Partner Doreen Lilienfeld (New York-Compensation, Governance & ERISA) was quoted in a February 3 New York Law Journal article (“New York Sees Growth in Partner Promotions”) on the increased number of lawyers promoted to partner last year.

Like many law firms, Shearman & Sterling does not consider gender when making promotions. Lilienfeld noted, “It's a level playing field, whether you're a woman, man or ethnic minority." Even so, two of Shearman & Sterling’s seven new partners—about 28%—are women, “a fantastic statistic,” she remarked. While commenting positively on the firm’s growth in women partners, Lilienfeld stated, "There's always room for improvement both in the profession and at any particular law firm. It starts with a culture of inclusion, and I think firms, including our firm, are more focused on this issue than ever before."
