Mark Kessel, of counsel at Shearman & Sterling and one of the leaders of the firm’s healthcare practice, recently had an article published in Science Translational Medicine  journal. Titled “Neglected Diseases, Delinquent Diagnoses,” the article looks at the challenges facing the medical diagnostic industry for neglected diseases. Kessel writes, “Relative to therapeutic R&D, modest investments in diagnostic technology can lead to dramatic improvements in health outcomes, but technology companies need incentives to enter this unfunded arena.”
