Partner Doreen Lilienfeld (New York-Compensation, Governance & ERISA) and associate Nell Beekman (New York-Compensation, Governance & ERISA) recently had an article, titled “The Imperative for Gender Diversity on Boards,” published in Corporate Governance Advisor. The article examines the lack of women on corporate board seats in the United States, and the scrutiny, shareholder pressure and possibly even government intervention that may result if companies fail to diversify their boards. Lilienfeld and Beekman write, “[I]f boards do not voluntarily address their lack of diversity, public frustration may make the political landscape more receptive to heavy-handed government intervention, as demonstrated by the quota laws introduced over the past decade.”
