Palo Alto Intellectual Property Transactions partner Richard Hsu was profiled in an article, titled “Silicon Valley lawyer makes a splash with his father-daughter video lectures,” in the ABA Journal. The story looks at Hsu’s innovative use of various communications tools, including his HsuTube blog and his series of short videos on complex IP topics.

The videos, in particular, have gained a following due in large part to Hsu’s use of his teenage daughter, Maya, to illustrate complex IP concepts. "I can't draw to save my life," he told the ABA Journal. "That's why I decided to enlist the help of my daughter Maya." In the videos, Maya, who was 13 years old when the videos were made, draws using a dry-erase marker and wipe board as her father explains subjects such as “licensed property” and “IP ownership in joint development.” “I got to spend a whole day shooting with my daughter. It didn't feel like work," he says. "They don't have a corporate feel to them. They're easy for people without legal backgrounds to watch, and they don't go on for too long." The article notes that, to date, Hsu's blog has had more than 3 million hits.  His latest project, HsuUntied is a podcast series of interviews he does with lawyers and their side hobbies.
