SHEARMAN & STERLING HISTORY VIDEOS: MAKING HISTORY AND REFLECTIONS

The firm has two video projects: “Making History” and “Reflections.” Watch these informative and compelling videos below.

Making History

These videos provide a behind-the-scenes look at the role that Shearman & Sterling played in critical history-making events—as seen through the eyes of the lawyers themselves.

International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda

This video focuses on the firm’s 15-year involvement with the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to help prosecute the perpetrators of the Rwandan Genocide. By the time the ICTR had completed its mandate in December 2015, more than 140 Shearman & Sterling lawyers had volunteered to spend one- to two-month sabbaticals in Arusha, Tanzania, to support the tribunal – an incredibly enriching and meaningful experience for all involved.

Automotive Industry

This video traces Shearman & Sterling’s early automotive industry work back to the 1950s and the firm’s important work on Ford’s IPO and then follows the firm’s continuing relationship with Ford, as well as equally compelling work over the years for Chrysler, Daimler, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover.

Latin America Debt Crisis

This video examines the role played by Shearman & Sterling lawyers in helping to avert a global financial crisis and to enable the region to recover from the so-called “lost decade” of the 1980s.

Iran Hostage Crisis

This video recounts the firm’s role as the critical, behind-the-scenes and ultimately successful negotiator during the Iran Hostage Crisis in 1979-81.

Reflections

Intended as oral histories, these short videos offer reminiscences and anecdotes on Shearman & Sterling client assignments and the broader legal industry.
