Contributing to IFLR’s Women in Business Law Group’s Best Practice Series on inclusiveness, partner Jessica Delbaum  (New York-Antitrust) wrote an article on using your network effectively. In this installment of the series, Delbaum and other Women in Business Law Group members discuss networking for all stages of your career – even for those who don’t always feel comfortable with small talk. “It’s important to find a way to network that resonates with you personally,” Delbaum says. “Maybe you like one-on-one meetings but are less comfortable speaking at conferences – but you should also push yourself to expand your network using other means.”

Delbaum offers some tips on keeping yourself on top of mind with clients. “Good connections come from repeat touches. As I read the news and industry press, I keep an eye towards what the people in my network would find interesting and will send them a note,” she says.  But always remember that networking is a two-way street. “The most important thing to remember is that you should give as much as you get. Networking is about give-and-take; be there when someone needs you, and they in turn will be there for you.”
