Of Counsel Robert Mundheim (New York- Capital Markets) received The New School’s Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters for his distinguished law career and extraordinary record of service to the profession, education, and civic and cultural life.

Robert has served in the U.S. Air Force and as General Counsel in the U.S. Treasury Department where he played a substantial role in negotiating the release of U.S. hostages in Iran in 1981. He also served as Dean of the School of Law at the University of Pennsylvania from 1982 to 1989.

As a refugee from Nazi Europe, Robert has felt a deep connection to The New School’s University in Exile – a safe haven established for European scholars fleeing oppression. He has served the university as a trustee and member of the Board of Governors of The New School for Social Research for many years and continues to make invaluable contributions to the institution.
