Shearman & Sterling has launched a new podcast called Barrier Blasters, a series dedicated to enhancing diversity and inclusion in the communities in which we live and work. The podcast will feature conversations with individuals and industry leaders who have challenged the status quo, broken through barriers, and in doing so, have created opportunities for others.
Our inaugural episode features Sandra Bang, the firm’s Chief Diversity and Talent Strategy Officer, and Rebecca Lobo, a former WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist. In this funny and eye-opening conversation, Rebecca shares anecdotes about how her coach challenged and inspired her to press forward early in her career and how her mother served as a role model when it came to “blasting barriers.”
In celebration of Women’s Equality Day, our second episode features a conversation with two pioneering women who helped effect change around women’s equality in the U.S. during the second-wave feminist movement – Joanne Edgar and Gloria Jacobs. Joanne and Gloria discuss the various ways in which they stood up for women’s rights during their tenure at Ms. magazine and the progress our country has seen over the decades, as well as opportunities for a more equitable future.
