The Lawyers Council for Civil and Economic Rights of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice of the New York City Bar published a report titled “Corruption in Times of COVID-19: A Regional Perspective on Public Procurement.” The work on the report was completed on a pro bono basis by the participating law firms.
The report describes how the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic crisis have led to an unprecedented assertion of power by governments across countries in the Americas and opened up opportunities that could significantly set back the fight against corruption.
“We call on the legal community throughout the region to be vigilant and active in support of anti-corruption efforts relating to COVID-19 and to work in support of civil society actors who are leading the fight for transparency and fairness,” says partner Antonia Stolper, one of the two U.S. members of the Lawyers Council.
