Family Offices: Are Digital Assets the New Gold?

Shearman & Sterling’s Family Office Group held a webinar discussion entitled “Digital Assets: The New Gold?” on Wednesday, February 24 at 11:00–11:45 am ET.

Family offices are uniquely positioned to invest in innovative technologies due to their ability to invest with more flexibility than institutions that are required to adhere to a formal investment mandate with a specific holding period. The discussion featured Chris Sae-Hau, Portfolio Manager and Partner at Exos Financial and Rodrigo Lopez Buenrostro, Partner at Kue Capital on how digital assets have become an alternative for investors looking to reduce reliance on the traditional financial system and the adoption of diversification strategies that support the allocation of funds to digital asset investments.

Chris Sae-Hau, Portfolio Manager and Partner at Exos Financial. Prior to joining Exos Chris was a portfolio manager at Brevan Howard Asset Management focused on systematic and discretionary global rates strategies. His trading approach combines quantitative analysis, statistical inference, with market fundamentals. Prior to Brevan Howard, Chris was a Rates Trader at Barclays on the US Treasury primary dealer desk. In addition, Chris worked on bond pricing models and strategies for automated hedging and post-trade analysis of customer flow. Chris is a graduate of MIT with a B.S. and Master of Engineering degrees in electrical engineering and computer science with a focus in control theory.

Rodrigo Lopez Buenrostro, Partner at Kue Capital, leads the Asset Management division within the firm and divides his time between equity research and manager selection with a global mandate. Rodrigo began his professional career as an Investment Banker at BBVA, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria. Rodrigo is an MBA graduate from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he earned a concentration in Analytic Finance.  He studied Business and Accounting at the Mexico Institute of Technology.  for undergrad where he wrote his thesis on hedge funds and started to invest personally. Rodrigo has always had an interest in finding the real value of assets, reading, and volunteering to teach basic concepts related to investing.

The discussion was moderated by Donna Parisi, Global Head of Finance and Head of the Family Office Group at Shearman & Sterling.
